Portobello Road: Street where the riches of ages are stowed

For the second time in London we caught an Uber, we are finding they cost just a small amount more than the Underground. This time we went to Portobello Road market.

At first we were very disappointed, only a couple of very junky type of stalls but further wandering led us to the real market. There was every type of food for sale and plenty of stalls to rummage through. We achieved my aim of finding a blue and white cup for the dresser and Felicity bought a Victorian turquoise and pearl ring. Felicity has watched a lot of Bargain Hunt and managed to negotiate better prices for each!

We then headed out to Windsor Castle by train. The State apartments were closed but we were able to walk the grounds, seeing the thick defensive walls and keep. We also saw Queen Mary’s dollhouse. What we both enjoyed most was St George’s Chapel. A perfectly preserved church with intricate roof and beautiful carvings. We particularly enjoyed the history, seeing the tombs of past royalty such as Henry V111 and where Katherine of Aragon sat to hear the services.

  1. What a great day out in Olde London Town. Great shopping ladies. Well done. Nostalgic journey with losts of references to literature, history and film. Where is the photograph of you reading in the private garden? You know the one I mean.
